Shooter: Savannah Vanderwier

Bow:  Supra EXT – Shooting PSE: 2 years

1. How did you get into archery?

I got into archery because my dad was into bowhunting. When we moved to our town, the local 4H club wanted my dad’s help with their archery program. My sister and I tagged along just for fun and that’s when I started shooting. The first thing I noticed was that I could beat the boys, which I loved. They all told me I could never outshoot them with my little pink bow, but I would whoop them.

After that, I did a lot of 4H competition. At a state 4H shoot, a local coach saw me shoot and told me I really needed to get into competitive archery, so I got my first target bow (a PSE Supra Max) and started doing NFAA shoots, etc.

2. Why do you shoot PSE?

I just love the bows. They’ve got a super smooth draw, which I really like. I have really hard stops on my Supra right now, and the grip is great. They shoot really, really well, and I feel comfortable and confident with them. I know if I’m shooting well, the bow’s going to put it in the middle.

  1. Do you prefer indoor tournaments, Field Archery or 3D?

I prefer target and field. Field is what I love the most, then it would be target and indoor. I’m considering doing Known 3D because it’s a lot like field. Indoor isn’t really my preference, but I’m doing well at it, so I’m going to stick with it even though I prefer to be outside.

  1. What’s your proudest moment as a competitive archer?

Making the USA field team that went to Ireland and going into the gold medal match with my best friend. Just the chance to represent Team USA and knowing in my heart that we were going to win was an unbelievable experience. Going to Vegas for the first time and winning it was also a proud moment.

  1. What advice would you give other competitive archers just starting out?

Practice a lot. Have fun. Listen to your coach. Make friends. Don’t be stubborn. Archery is not what defines you…if you don’t win a tournament, that’s okay. For me, I know archery doesn’t define me. I’m a child of God and an archery victory is just what’s given.

  1. What are your goals for the next five years of competition?

For this year, I want to be part of the Youth World Championship team, and then Field next year. I’m going to make as many of those teams as possible. I really want to try ASA competition and also want to score an invite to the Field Archery Pro Series. That’s insane and looks like a lot of fun.

  1. What makes the PSE brand unique in your opinion?

PSE feels like family. You don’t feel like you are just a nameless customer. Any contact we’ve ever had with PSE, they help us out a ton. It just feels like a big family, and you can tell they care.

What a weekend for Team PSE at the ASA event in Paris, TX! Lewis Holmes III, Christopher Perkins and Stephan Hansen all headed into the shootoff, with Holmes and Perkins taking the 1st and 2nd spots in Known Pro, while  Connor Sears also took home the top spot in K45!

Congrats to every member of Team PSE in competition this weekend!

Shooter: Kyle Douglas from Harrisville, UT

Bow: PSE Xpression – Shooting PSE: 6 years

1. How did you get into archery?

I started it in a kid’s league and then transitioned into bowhunting. Eventually, I started doing local tournaments and things just kept going from there.

2. Why do you shoot PSE?

When I was first getting into target archery I tried a bunch of different bows and nothing felt as good as the PSE. Their bow designs just fit me best. I like the way they shoot and they’ve always worked out for me…I’ve never thought about switching to anything else.

3. Do you hunt as well?

Yep. I love hunting elk, it’s my favorite game by far.

4. Do you prefer indoor tournaments, Field Archery or 3D?

I don’t have a preference; I need all the experience I can get. I shoot whatever is available to me locally, I’ve shot Vegas, Lancaster, ATA, some outdoor target stuff. Right now I shoot everything I can.

5. What’s your proudest moment as a competitive archer?

Winning Young Adult in Vegas back in 2015.

6. What advice would you give other competitive archers just starting out?

There are so many different thing you can focus on…getting your bow set-up correctly is an easy one. But my biggest piece of advice is to find a coach you trust and focus on their advice. Sometimes you can get to the point where you listen to too many people and things can get jumbled. Pick one good coach and stick with their advice.

7. What are your goals for the next five years of competition?

Get more experience. Compete at the highest level every shoot. Podium at some high profile events.

8. What makes the PSE brand unique in your opinion?

They stand behind their product, and they have something to offer for everyone. Top level professional shooters, kids, traditional archers. PSE does it all and stands behind every product.

Thanks to Kyle Douglas for taking the time out to speak to us this week. Best of luck at your next shoot, Kyle!

It was a great weekend for Team PSE at the 2017 NFAA Indoor Nationals in Cincinnati, with Team PSE’s Stephan Hansen finishing second in Open Men’s Pro, and PSE shooters Alex Wifler and Lewis Holmes III joined him in the shoot-off after the three competitors spent the weekend shooting perfect 300/60X. PSE Pro Shooter Scott Starnes also had a solid weekend, earning a spot in the top half of the field, while Kent Stigal took the crown in Senior Male Freestyle.

While the men shot well, the women of Team PSE were not going to be outdone. Dee Starnes took home the Senior Pro Female championship, and she had company at the top of the podium with Savanah Vanderwier (Champion, Young Adult Female), and Martha Lorence (Silver Senior Female) both taking the top spot in their divisions.

Congratulations to Team PSE for all of their hard work and great shooting this weekend at the NFAA Indoor Nationals.

With his win this weekend at the 2017 Nimes Archery Indoor Tournament, Team PSE shooter Stephan Hansen has further cemented his standing as one the best competition archers in the world. Finishing up his final round by shooting three bullseyes in a row with his PSE Xpression compound bow, Hansen defeated Slovenia’s Dejan Sitar 148 to 145.

“Stephan is an amazing shooter, there’s no other way to put it,” stated Blake Shelby, VP of Sales and Marketing for PSE. “We knew years ago that Stephan was going to be the future of International competition archery, and every time he shoots at a tournament he proves us right.”

This win at the Nimes tournament comes only a month after Hansen took gold at World Cup 1 for the second year in a row. He also won individual and team gold at the European Archery championships last year.

PSE’s Stephan Hansen Wins World Cup 1 Gold

PSE would like to congratulate Team PSE Elite Pro Shooter Stephan Hansen for winning World Cup 1 in Marrakesh, Morocco. Shooting his PSE Xpression for Team Denmark, Hansen defeated his opponent Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands by a single point to take home the gold.

“Stephan has had an amazing year and is a great international ambassador for the PSE brand,” stated Blake Shelby, VP of Sale, Marketing, and Engineering for PSE. “This young man’s career is only beginning and PSE is beyond proud to have him as a member of our Pro staff.”
