PSE’s Michael DeCosta wins in Vegas! Eleven-year-old Michael DeCosta, PSE’s young rising star recently capped off an outstanding year by winning the World Archery Festival in Las Vegas. Michael took an early three point lead the first day by shooting an outstanding score of 295. By the end of the tournament, Michael had extended his lead to seven points and was crowned Champion in the World Archery Festival-Vegas 2009 Cub Division. This was a fitting end to Michael’s phenomenal final year as a Cub. In January, 2008 Michael set a new CA State Indoor record. He then went on capture a National Title at the NFAA Marked 3D National Championship, shooting the highest overall score. Michael then decided to take a shot at the FITA venue of archery. (This is the venue shot at the Olympics.) He won the Pacific Coast Championship and ended up setting five new National FITA records. Michael then went back to the Outdoor Field venue that he so enjoys, competing in the NFAA National Field Archery Championship in Yangton, South Dakota. This was a five day event and Michael was in charge and solidly in first place the entire event. One day shooting a 558 and the next day shooting a 559, out of a possible perfect score of 560. After the outdoor season was over, Michael took a little time off and then started shooting in an indoor league preparing for Vegas… and the rest is history. Michael will turn twelve in March and move into the Youth division. His goal is to one day shoot for the United States Archery Team in the World Cup. We’re betting he’ll achieve that goal! |
